Sudan Sovereignty Council President Burhan: Political prisoners will be released

General Abdulfettah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudan Sovereignty Council, stated that everyone failed to manage the transition period and that they could not meet the demands of the citizens.

Emphasizing that he wanted the transition period to pass in peace, reconciliation, and consent among all, Burhan underlined the importance of finding the best way to complete this period until free and fair elections are held, where citizens will choose who will govern them.

According to the army chief, the Sudanese army will release political prisoners to create a favorable atmosphere for dialogue in the country.

In the statement made by the President of the Sovereignty Council, he stated that the political prisoners will be free in a few days to prepare the dialogue environment, that the procedures for their release have been started, and that in two or three days, “We are ready to hand over the power to the civilians if there is a compromise between the political forces.” made his statement.

Burhan reported that he had instructed the authorities to review the state of emergency and maintain certain provisions involving national security and the economy.
