New Central Bank Governor appointed in Nijeria

A new president was appointed to replace the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, who was dismissed from his duties on allegations of corruption in Nigeria.

Special Adviser to the President, Ajuri Ngelalei, announced in a statement that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Olayemi Cardoso as the new CBN Governor.

Ngelalei stated that Tinubu appointed four people as vice presidents.

Tinubu had dismissed CBN Governor Emefiele on June 9, citing corruption. Emefiele was caught by security forces while trying to escape abroad on June 10.

The trial in which Godwin Emefiele is accused of corruption continues.
