Mali expels the spokesman of the UN’s peacekeeping force

Mali’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said on Wednesday it has informed Olivier Salgado, spokesman for the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (Minusma), that he has 72 hours to leave the national territory.

In the statement, it was announced that Salgado was deported because of his unacceptable posts on social media about 49 Ivory Coast soldiers detained in Mali.

On 10 July, the Provisional Government in Mali announced the arrest of forty-nine Ivorian soldiers, thirty of whom belonged to special forces, in Bamako.

The Ivory Coast government had demanded the release of the detained soldiers, claiming that they were in Mali to support the United Nations Mali Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission (MINUSMA) under an agreement agreed between the two countries.
