Elections in Liberia go to second round
In Liberia’s general elections held on October 10, current results show that President George Weah and opposition leader Joseph Boakai neck-and-neck, below the threshold needed to avoid a second round.
According to the West African nation’s election commission, 98.4% of the votes have been counted till today, and Weah holds the lead with 43.79% of the vote, while Boakai has 43.49%.
To avoid a run-off, the winner must secure more than 50% of votes cast.
Election body has until October 25 to release first-round results.
