Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda ease tension with Angola mediation
Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Angola’s President João Lourenço, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo president Felix Tshisekedi met for a mediation meeting in Luanda on July 6, 2022.
President Lourenço, chair of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), has been commissioned by the African Union as a mediator to resolve the crisis.
Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo have been experiencing a series of conflicts on their eastern borders due to tensions created by rebel groups.
Relations between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda deteriorated after Kinshasa accused Rwanda of supporting M23 rebels who have been involved in conflict with the military since the end of May.
On the side of the allegations, the President of Rwanda Kigali denied the accusations.
