Early migration of Zimbabwean elephants to Botswana
This year Zimbabwe's water got low earlier, so that elephants migrated to Botswana early, and left a beautiful scene behind.
Large numbers of elephants in Zimbabwe’s national park have begun migrating to neighboring Botswana in search of water.
“Many animals migrate from Hwange National Park to Botswana,” Tinashe Farawo, spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, told to AFP.
“Water bodies have dried up and animals are searching for water and food,” the spokesman said, adding that buffalos and “all kinds of animals living in the park” have also migrated as large groups.
“I can’t measure how many elephants moved, hundreds or thousands, but it was a lot,” Tinashe Farawo said of the migration that began in August.
Hwange National Park covers an area of more than 14,600 square kilometers and is home to approximately 50,000 elephants.
